Halloween lands on a Saturday this year, and the events start Friday, which makes it an easy weekend to spend in the valley. It also falls in a quiet stretch. The summer crowds are gone, Bald Mountain's lifts aren't turning yet, and the villages feel like themselves. If you're visiting, thinking about buying, or just want a plan for the night, here's what we know.
The Halloween weekend calendar
Here's what's listed for 2026, based on a local events roundup and Sun Valley Resort's event page. Admission prices aren't listed for most events, so check each venue before you go.

The Halloween Fall Festival at Sun Valley Village
Sun Valley Resort's event page lists the Saturday festival as free, with trick-or-treating through the village shops in costume, ice skating at the Outdoor Ice Rink from 12 to 3 p.m., and a movie at the Sun Valley Opera House at 3 p.m. The resort doesn't list a trick-or-treating time, so call the recreation team at (208) 622-2135 or email [email protected] before you plan around it.
For comparison, Ketchum's Main Street trick-or-treat ran from 4 to 7 p.m. on Halloween in 2025, organized by Whiskey's on Main. We didn't find a 2026 listing for it, so check with the organizer. The Idaho Mountain Express calendar and Visit Sun Valley are the best places to confirm times as they're updated.
If you're visiting the valley this weekend
A holiday weekend between seasons is a good time to see how the valley works when it isn't busy. A few things we tell buyers who are in town:
- Walk both places. Ketchum's Main Street and Sun Valley Village are only a few minutes apart by car but feel different on the ground. Seeing them on a Saturday gives you a feel for how close a property actually is to the shops, restaurants, and lifts you'll use.
- Drive the commute. Highway 75 construction between Elkhorn Road and River Street has pushed completion into 2027, so a Saturday drive is a useful baseline even though it isn't a weekday rush.
- Notice the lighting. Sun Valley Resort is America's first DarkSky Certified Resort, and exterior lighting rules apply to homes in the area. Our post on the DarkSky designation and what it means for homeowners covers it, which is worth knowing before you plan holiday lights or a remodel.
- Ask about winter. Ski season is weeks away, so it's the right moment to ask about snow removal, private road plowing, and who looks after the house while you're gone.
If you own a home here and you're away
Many owners in Ketchum, Sun Valley, and Hailey don't live here year-round, and Halloween is a good checkpoint before the weather turns. Make sure someone is checking the property, the driveway has a plow plan, and the mailing address on file with the county is current, since property tax bills go out in late November. Our guide to managing a Sun Valley second home from afar walks through the checklist.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Halloween a good time to tour homes in Sun Valley and Ketchum?
It can be. It's a shoulder-season weekend, so streets and restaurants are quieter than in summer or ski season, which lets you see how a property sits relative to the village and the highway. Weather can change quickly in late October, so ask about access and winter conditions at any property you visit.
What is the Sun Valley Halloween Fall Festival?
It's a free event that begins at noon on Saturday, October 31, in Sun Valley Village with costume trick-or-treating at village shops, free ice skating from noon to 3 p.m., and a free movie at the Opera House at 3 p.m. Call (208) 622-2135 to confirm details.
Where can I find this year's Ketchum and Hailey Halloween events?
Check the Idaho Mountain Express calendar, Visit Sun Valley, and the Sun Valley Resort events page. Organizers have used these channels in past years, and times can shift as the date gets closer.
